Investigations on microstructure and properties of Ti-Nb-Zr medium-entropy alloys for metallic biomaterials

Meichen Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of three medium entropy alloys (MEAs) as biomedical materials. The alloys exhibit a dendrite microstructure, which can be reduced through homogenization treatment. The MEAs show good compressive ductility and yield strength, as well as excellent corrosion resistance and cyto-compatibility. The Ti-Nb-Zr MEAs have promising potential in biomedical applications.

Abnormal work hardening in a TRIP-assisted metastable β titanium alloy under high strain rate loading

Xinkai Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamic tensile deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of a metastable beta titanium alloy (Ti-10 V-2Fe-3Al, Ti-1023) with a single beta phase structure were investigated. The results showed that the dynamic tensile properties and work hardening ability of the alloy exhibited a significant strain rate dependence, and microstructural analyses revealed that the deformation mechanisms and phase transformations played important roles in the work hardening behavior.

The coupling influences and corresponding mechanisms of high efficiency thermal-magnetic treatments on the dimensional stability of Al-Cu-Mg alloy

Yufeng Song et al.

Summary: In this study, a thermal-magnetic field coupling treatment was applied to optimize the dimensional stability of Al-Cu-Mg alloys. The high-efficiency thermal-magnetic treatment rapidly reduced the thermal strain and promoted the nucleation of Al2CuMg phases and the annihilation of dislocations.

Effect of Zr addition on the local structure and mechanical properties of Ti-Ta-Nb-Zr refractory high-entropy alloys

Guangyun Ji et al.

Summary: Solid solution strengthening is the major mechanism for high strength in single-phase body-centered cubic refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAS). Local lattice distortion (LLD) is considered as one of the core effects of HEAs and is believed to play a deterministic role in solid solution strengthening for RHEAS. However, this study shows that modulus mismatch dominates solid solution strengthening, even in severely distorted Zr-containing RHEAS. Additionally, an unexpected finding is that increasing Zr content accelerates grain growth, contrary to the sluggish diffusion effect proposed for HEAs.

Mechanical, corrosion, and wear properties of biomedical Ti-Zr-Nb-Ta-Mo high entropy alloys

Nengbin Hua et al.

Summary: The study on TixZrNbTaMo high entropy alloys revealed excellent properties in hardness, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance, with improvement in wear resistance in phosphate buffer saline solution as the titanium content decreases. The Ti0.5ZrNbTaMo alloy showed the highest corrosive wear resistance among the four HEAs due to its superior mechanical properties and chemical stability.

Effect of the valence electron concentration on the yield strength of Ti-Zr-Nb-V high-entropy alloys

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of valence electron concentration on the yield strength of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) by designing and preparing a series of Ti-Zr-Nb-V HEAs. Experimental results showed that alloys with a low V/Zr ratio exhibited a single-phase body-centered cubic (BCC) solid solution structure, while alloys with a high V/Zr ratio contained a small amount of V2Zr phase. The yield strength of the alloys increased with an increasing V/Zr ratio.
