The corrosion behavior of the 6061 Al alloy in simulated Nansha marine atmosphere

Can Peng et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of extruded 6061 Al alloy in simulated Nansha marine atmosphere was investigated using electrochemical measurements, microscopic observations, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) tests. Severe intergranular and intragranular corrosion were observed on the sample surface, with Mg2Si phase and AlFeSi particles playing important roles. The preferential dissolution of Mg from the Mg2Si phase was found and explained thermodynamically. This study provides valuable information for understanding the corrosion behavior and mechanism of the 6061 Al alloy in simulated marine atmosphere and can aid in the development of new alloys resistant to corrosion in this environment in the future.

Role of Hydrogen and Temperature in Hydrogen Embrittlement of Equimolar CoCrFeMnNi High-entropy Alloy

Junghoon Lee et al.

Summary: The study revealed the occurrence of hydrogen embrittlement at both 177K and 298K, with hydrogen diffusion primarily along boundaries. At 77K, hydrogen was trapped due to active twin formation, preventing it from diffusing into stress-concentration regions, resulting in no significant hydrogen embrittlement.

Corrosion-resistant Cu-Fe-based immiscible medium-entropy alloy with tri-layer passivation

Jongun Moon et al.

Summary: A novel alloy design strategy for improving corrosion resistance of Al-Cu-Fe-Mn immiscible dual-phase medium-entropy alloy by adding Cr is proposed and experimentally verified. The corrosion resistance of the alloy is significantly enhanced, with tri-layer oxide layers of Cu-, Cr-, and Fe-rich oxides forming during corrosion, leading to comparable corrosion resistance to austenitic stainless steels.

Microstructure formation mechanism and corrosion behavior of FeCrCuTiV two-phase high entropy alloy prepared by different processes

Shaoqiu Xia et al.

Summary: The microstructure and corrosion resistance of FeCrCuTiV high entropy alloy were studied, with results showing that the laser melting deposition process reduces grain size and volume fraction of Cu-rich phase. The higher cooling rate of laser melting deposition contributes to limited grain growth and decreased Cu-rich phase volume fraction. FeCrCuTiV high entropy alloy prepared by laser melting deposition exhibits better corrosion resistance in salt solution electrochemical corrosion test due to reduced Cu-rich phase.

On the corrosion of a high solute Al-Zn-Mg alloy produced by laser powder bed fusion

A. P. Babu et al.

Summary: The research examined an additively manufactured aluminium alloy with high solute content, Al-14Zn-3Mg, which showed lower corrosion rate compared to a conventional wrought alloy, AA7075-T6. This difference was attributed to the microstructure and solute content of Al-14Zn-3Mg, specifically the absence of coarse intermetallic particles. Various tests were conducted to analyze the corrosion behavior of this new alloy manufactured through LPBF.
