Microstructure, properties, and formation mechanisms of tungsten/steel hot isostatic pressing diffusion bonding joint utilizing a Ni-Si-B interlayer

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: The study successfully bonded tungsten and steel using hot isostatic pressing diffusion bonding with a Ni-Si-B interlayer. Thicker interlayers (5.3 μm) resulted in the most compact interfacial structure and highest bonding strength, while thinner interlayers (0.8 μm) showed poor shear strength due to cracks at the interface. The formation mechanism differed between thin and thick interlayers, with the latter involving a solid-liquid reaction process.

Fatigue crack initiation behaviors around defects induced by welding thermal cycle in superalloy IN617B

Shanlin Li et al.

Summary: In this study, fatigue crack initiation behaviors around defects induced by welding thermal cycle in IN617B were investigated. Two mechanisms of fatigue crack initiation were clarified, and the dominant mechanism was determined by the distance of crack initiation from defects. Welding defects altered the deformation mode of the near-field region, accelerating the fatigue failure process.

Microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of IC10 superalloy and (CoCrNi)94Al3Ti3 MEA joint brazed using NiCrSiB filler

Shiwei Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the brazing of IC10 Ni3Al-based superalloy to (CoCrNi)(94)Al3Ti3 medium-entropy alloy (MEA) using NiCrSiB filler metal. The formation mechanism of the joint was investigated, and different regions such as diffusion-affected zone (DAZ), isothermal solidification zone (ISZ), and athermal solidification zone (ASZ) were observed. The presence of these zones influenced the mechanical properties and fracture behavior of the joint.

Effect of bonding temperature and bonding time on microstructure of dissimilar transient liquid phase bonding of GTD111/BNi-2/IN718 system

Ali Izadi Ghahferokhi et al.

Summary: The effect of bonding temperature and bonding time on the microstructure of transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding named GTD111 and IN718 superalloys was evaluated. It was found that shorter bonding times result in continuous eutectic intermetallic phases, while longer times lead to eutectic-free microstructure. The bonding temperature affects the isothermal solidification rate, and the microstructure of the joint centerline is controlled by diffusion of melting point depressant (MPD) elements at low bonding temperatures. The influence of base metal alloying elements on the joint microstructure development is more pronounced at high bonding temperatures. Additionally, the size of the athermally solidified zone (ASZ) reduces with increasing bonding temperature and time due to diffusion of boron into the base metal.

Effect of diffusion brazing time on microstructure, isothermal solidification completion and microhardness distribution during joining of Nicrofer 5520 superalloy using a liquated Ni-Cr-B interlayer

Ali Nasajpour et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of time on the microstructural evolution, element distribution, precipitated phases, and microhardness of diffusion brazed Nicrofer 5520 superalloy using a BNi-9 interlayer was investigated. The results showed that an appropriate holding time led to complete isothermal solidification, lower density of precipitated phases, and more uniform microhardness.

Mechanical properties of sandstone under hydro-mechanical coupling

Tao Tan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical properties of water-saturated sandstone under hydro-mechanical coupling through triaxial compression tests. The results show that the peak deviation stress, residual deviation stress, initial deviation stress of dilation, and deformation modulus of water-saturated sandstone are affected by both pore water pressure and confining pressure. Additionally, the effective cohesion, effective residual cohesion, effective angle of internal friction, and effective residual angle of internal friction are determined.

Comprehensive microstructural investigation during dissimilar transient liquid phase bonding cobalt-based superalloys by BNi-9 amorphous interlayer foil

Mojtaba Naalchian et al.

Summary: Cobalt-based X-45 and FSX-414 superalloys with interlayer BNi-9 were successfully bonded by a transient liquid phase bonding process at a constant temperature of 1150 degrees C. Microstructural changes and chemical composition uniformity along the joint were observed to vary with holding time and temperature. Bonding under standard solution heat treatment condition completely removed the diffusion affected zone on the 45-X side.
