Hot deformation behaviour and microstructure evolution of Al-3% Mg2Si alloy

Min Hu et al.

Summary: Isothermal compression tests were conducted on the Al-3%Mg2Si alloy in the temperature range of 300-500°C and strain rate range of 0.01-5 s-1, revealing typical dynamic recovery characteristics in the flow stress curves. A modified Arrhenius-type constitutive equation was established to describe the flow behavior. Microstructure evolution was analyzed based on the processing map. High efficiency of power dissipation regions was attributed to softening mechanisms of dynamic recovery and partial dynamic recrystallization, with Mg2Si particles also playing a positive role in the latter. Damage mechanism of unstable domains was identified as fracture and debonding of Mg2Si particles.

Microstructure, superplasticity, and mechanical properties of Al-Mg-Er-Zr alloys

A. D. Kotov et al.

Summary: Minor additions of rare-earth elements have been found to enhance the mechanical properties of aluminum-based alloys by improving precipitation strengthening and increasing resistance to recrystallization. This study investigated the microstructure, mechanical properties, and superplasticity of Al-Mg-Z-Er alloys with varying Mg content. The results showed that an increase in Mg content led to solid solution strengthening and facilitated dynamic recrystallization at high temperatures. The presence of fine L12 precipitates and (Al,Mg)3Er particles resulted in a fine-grained structure and excellent superplastic deformation behavior.

Hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of hot-extruded 6A02 aluminum alloy

Ying Zhang et al.

Summary: This work investigated the effects of temperature, strain rate, strain and initial orientation on the hot-compression behavior and microstructural evolution of hot-extruded 6A02 aluminum alloy. The results showed that higher temperature and lower strain rate led to lower geometrically necessary dislocation density, lower stored strain energy, and higher dynamic recrystallization degree. The continuous dynamic recrystallization mechanism was superior to the discontinuous dynamic recrystallization mechanism.

Effect of TiC nanoparticles on the hot deformation behavior of AA7075 aluminum alloy

Cheng Cong Huang et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behaviors of AA7075 aluminum alloy and nano-treated AA7075 aluminum alloy were compared at high temperatures, revealing that the latter exhibited deteriorated hot processing properties and increased instability region, resulting in more microvoids and microcracks. The flow stress of nano-treated AA7075 was higher than that of AA7075 at lower temperatures, but the difference decreased at higher temperatures. The microstructures analysis showed that the mixed particles of TiC and MgZn2 played a key role in pinning dislocations and inhibiting grain growth during deformation.

Dynamic softening mechanisms and Zener-Hollomon parameter of Al-Mg-Si-Ce-B alloy during hot deformation

Yi Yu et al.

Summary: Isothermal hot compression tests were conducted on Al-Mg-Si-Ce-B alloy at temperatures from 623-823 K with strain rates of 0.01-50 s-1. The alloy showed plastic deformation instability at relatively low temperatures, with optimized deformation parameters identified as 783-823 K/0.03-0.04 s. The microstructure was characterized using TEM and EBSD, and the influence of Z parameter on dynamic softening mechanisms was discussed, showing both DRV and CDRX as softening mechanisms during hot deformation.

Effects of Al(MnFe)Si dispersoids with different sizes and number densities on microstructure and ambient/elevated-temperature mechanical properties of extruded Al-Mg-Si AA6082 alloys with varying Mn content

Jovid Rakhmonov et al.

Summary: The study showed that fine dispersoids were more effective in increasing the alloy's resistance to plastic deformation during extrusion compared to coarse dispersoids. At ambient temperature, the 0.5% Mn-containing alloy exhibited substantial strengthening effects; however, increasing the Mn content led to a decline in mechanical properties.

Summary: The investigation found that different types of Zr-bearing dispersoids can be produced under different homogenization conditions after Zr addition. In hot compression testing, Zr-bearing dispersoids can increase high-temperature flow stress and inhibit dislocation motion and dynamic recovery. During post-deformation annealing, these dispersoids have a positive impact on recrystallization inhibition.

Enhanced high-temperature age-hardening behavior and mechanical properties of Al-Mg-Si alloys via microalloying with Cd

Gang Lu et al.

Summary: The addition of trace Cd not only accelerated the precipitation kinetics and increased the peak hardness of Al-Mg-Si alloys, but also refined the size and increased the number density of the precipitates. The Cd addition also improved the room-temperature tensile properties of the alloy, enhancing yield strength and total elongation due to the refined precipitate microstructure and narrowed precipitate-free zone along the grain boundaries.
