Preliminary Study of Standard Artificial Temporomandibular Joint Replacement With Preservation of Muscle Attachment

Luxiang Zou et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of preserving muscle attachments during standard artificial temporomandibular joint replacement (TJR). Results showed that preserving muscle attachments led to significantly better postoperative mandibular function and pain relief compared to cases where muscle attachments were not preserved.

A Novel Design of Temporomandibular Joint Prosthesis for Lateral Pterygoid Muscle Attachment: A Preliminary Study

Luxiang Zou et al.

Summary: A novel TMJ replacement prosthesis was designed for LPM attachment and its feasibility was verified through in vitro and in vivo experiments. The porous titanium scaffold showed good adhesion and biocompatibility with L6 muscle cells, but the muscle attachment force in goat condylar reconstruction was smaller than the biological muscle-bone attachment force.

3D Printing in alloy design to improve biocompatibility in metallic implants

Indranath Mitra et al.

Summary: 3D printing technology can be used to design metallic alloys for orthopedic and dental applications with improved biocompatibility. This study focused on enhancing the biocompatibility of titanium by combining tantalum chemistry, designed micro-porosity, and nanoscale surface modification.

Study on the lateral pterygoid muscle status after artificial temporomandibular joint replacement

Y. Q. Zhong et al.

Summary: This study explored the changes in the lateral pterygoid muscle (LPM) after detachment in artificial temporomandibular joint replacement (TJR) surgery. It was found that the operated LPM volume significantly reduced over time postoperatively, affecting the movement of the replaced joint.

TMEM182 interacts with integrin beta 1 and regulates myoblast differentiation and muscle regeneration

Wen Luo et al.

Summary: TMEM182 is specifically expressed in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, regulated transcriptionally by MyoD1. Functionally, TMEM182 inhibits myoblast differentiation and fusion. In vivo studies show that TMEM182 induces muscle fibre atrophy and delays muscle regeneration, while TMEM182 knockout results in increased body weight, muscle mass, and accelerated skeletal muscle regeneration. Moreover, TMEM182 interacts with ITGB1 to modulate ITGB1 activation and downstream signaling pathways during myogenesis.
