Rebecca L. Siegel et al.

Summary: Each year, the American Cancer Society compiles data on cancer occurrence and outcomes in the United States. The latest data shows that breast and prostate cancer progress has stagnated, while lung cancer has shown improvements in survival rates. Lung cancer incidence for advanced disease has declined while localized-stage rates have increased, resulting in higher survival rates. Mortality patterns align with incidence trends, with lung cancer deaths declining rapidly, breast cancer deaths slowing, and prostate cancer deaths stabilizing.

Summary: The study found associations between markers of unhealthy aging and risks of cancer and cardiovascular disease, with some markers showing positive associations with specific diseases and others showing negative associations. Additionally, combinations of these markers showed moderately strong associations with the risks of cancer and CVD.

The ratio of creatinine and cystatin C estimated glomerular filtration rates as a surrogate marker in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing hepatic resection

Norifumi Harimoto et al.

Summary: The ratio of creatinine and cystatin C estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFRcre/eGFRcys) is positively correlated with sarcopenia. This study investigated the relationship between eGFRcre/eGFRcys and long-term prognosis in patients after hepatic resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The results showed that eGFRcre/eGFRcys can predict overall and recurrence-free survival in HCC patients undergoing hepatic resection.

Summary: Preoperative CysC and RN were independent predictors for reduced eGFR <60 ml/min/1.73m² in follow-up, and CysC may be superior to creatinine for renal function monitoring postoperatively.

Summary: In patients with UC, eGFR based on sCys C more accurately reflects renal function than eGFR based on sCr, suggesting that sCys C may be useful for assessing renal function in clinical practice.
