Analysis of the movement of live broilers in Guangxi, China and implications for avian influenza control

Summary: This study evaluated the spatio-temporal patterns of live broilers movement in and out of Guangxi in 2017, finding that the province had extensive inter- and intra-provincial movements. Peaks in movements were not observed during the Chinese New Year, likely due to H7N9 control measures, with significantly higher movements noted in March. Targeted interventions to certain counties with high movement rates may be more effective in controlling avian influenza risk transmission.

Summary: This study investigated the transmission mechanisms of avian influenza A(H5N6) virus by exploring the live poultry feeding and trading network (LPFTN) around Changsha city, China. The study demonstrated that the LPFTN provided a platform for the transmission of H5N6 virus, forming an infectious pool for potential spread to humans.
