Palladium-catalyzed denitrative N-arylation of nitroarenes with pyrroles, indoles, and carbazoles

Lin Feng et al.

Summary: We have developed an efficient palladium-catalyzed denitrative N-arylation method, which enables the cross-coupling of N-H heteroarenes with nitroarenes. This method allows for the selective synthesis of various functionalized N-arylated heterocycles with moderate to excellent yields. Furthermore, its success in scale-up experiments and late-stage modification of natural products and pharmaceutical derivatives demonstrates the synthetic potential of this direct denitrative N-arylation protocol in synthetic chemistry.

Palladium-Catalyzed Denitrative α-Arylation of Ketones with Nitroarenes

Zhirong Li et al.

Summary: The palladium-catalyzed alpha-arylation of ketones with nitroarenes and nitroheteroarenes provides access to useful alpha-aryl and alpha-heteroaryl ketones. The use of Pd/BrettPhos catalysts is crucial for high efficiency, with other catalysts leading to decreased yields. This methodology can also be applied to intramolecular substrates, resulting in the synthesis of polyaromatic carbonyl compounds.

Diaryl Ether Formation Merging Photoredox and Nickel Catalysis

Le Liu et al.

Summary: Photoredox and Ni catalysis are combined to produce diaryl ethers under mild conditions. A variety of aryl halides and phenol derivatives can be cross-coupled, with symmetrical diaryl ethers obtained directly from aryl bromides in the presence of water. Mechanistic investigations support the involvement of Ni(0) species at the beginning and a Ni(II)/Ni(III)-photocatalyzed single electron transfer process prior to the C(sp(2))-OAr reductive elimination.

Cross-Coupling Reactions of Nitroarenes

Myuto Kashihara et al.

Summary: Cross-coupling reactions using nitroarenes as electrophiles have gained attention due to their ease of accessibility and potential advantages over haloarenes. Recent research has focused on developing new catalyst systems and reaction conditions to improve the efficiency and practicality of these reactions, with promising results in diversifying bond-forming reactions and reducing catalyst loading. Research in this field is expected to continue growing as the utility of nitroarenes in organic synthesis is reevaluated.

Design, Synthesis, and Implementation of Sodium Silylsilanolates as Silyl Transfer Reagents

Hiroki Yamagishi et al.

Summary: This study developed a stable source of sodium silylsilanolates for silylation of aryl halides and pseudohalides. Mechanistic studies showed that a nucleophilic attack of silanolate on a palladium center forms a silylsilanolate-coordinated arylpalladium intermediate, and a polymeric cluster of silanolate species assists in the intramolecular migration of silyl groups, which promotes efficient transmetalation.
