Aminoboranes via Tandem Iodination/Dehydroiodination for One-Pot Borylation

P. Veeraraghavan Ramachandran et al.

Summary: A rapid synthesis of aminoboranes from amine-boranes utilizing an iodination/dehydroiodination sequence is described. It has been applied to a one-pot palladium-catalyzed conversion of iodo- and bromoarenes to the corresponding boronates, and allows for recovery of the utilized amine.

Monotrifluoroacetoxyborane-amines: chemoselective reagents for challenging reductive aminations

P. Veeraraghavan Ramachandran et al.

Summary: Borane-amines can undergo monoacetoxylation to form trifluoroacetoxyborane-amines (TFAB-amines), which can be used as chemoselective reagents for direct reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones. TFAB-NEt3 has been found to be mild and highly selective compared to commonly used reagents such as NaBH3CN and Na(AcO)(3)BH, even at higher temperatures and with challenging substrates. The mechanism involves the formation of polyaminoborane through dehydroacetoxylation of TFAB-NH3.

Ammonia-Borane Dehydrogenation Catalyzed by Dual-Mode Proton-Responsive Ir-CNNH Complexes

Isabel Ortega-Lepe et al.

Summary: Metal complexes with proton-responsive ligands are superior catalysts in reactions involving H-2. A series of Ir-III complexes based on lutidine-derived CNNH pincers have been synthesized and tested in the dehydrogenation of ammoniaborane, with 4a demonstrating the highest catalytic activity. Kinetic rate measurements show different dependencies on AB for complexes 4a and 4b, with 4a exhibiting zero-order dependence and 4b showing second-order dependence.

Hydroboration Reaction and Mechanism of Carboxylic Acids using NaNH2(BH3)2, a Hydroboration Reagent with Reducing Capability between NaBH4 and LiAlH4

Jin Wang et al.

Summary: The hydroboration reactions of carboxylic acids using sodium aminodiboranate (NaNH2[BH3](2), NaADBH) to form primary alcohols were systematically investigated, demonstrating that NaADBH is a promising reducing agent due to its stability and efficiency. The reduction mechanism was elucidated experimentally and computationally, with intermediates and byproducts identified through B-11 and H-1 NMR. The reactions exhibit excellent yields and good selectivity, providing alternative synthetic approaches for the conversion of carboxylic acids to primary alcohols with a wide range of functional group tolerance.

Synthesis of 1,3-Aminoalcohols and Spirocyclic Azetidines via Tandem Hydroxymethylation and Aminomethylation Reaction of β-Keto Phosphonates with N-Nosyl-O-(2-bromoethyl)hydroxylamine

Binyu Wu et al.

Summary: An unprecedented tandem alpha-hydroxymethylation and alpha-aminomethylation reaction of aromatic cyclic beta-keto phosphonates with N-nosyl-O-(2-bromoethyl)hydroxylamine in the presence of DBU base has been developed, affording a range of 1,3-aminoalcohols in good yields. The resultant products could be flexibly transformed into the spirocyclic and bispirocyclic azetidines via one step of Mitsunobu reaction. Mechanistic study revealed that hydroxylamine in situ generated the formaldehyde and nosylamide, which in turn triggered the sequential Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons, Michael, and aldol reactions.

Thermal Dehydrogenation and Hydrolysis of BH3NH3 Catalyzed by Cyclic (Alkyl)(amino)carbene Iridium Complexes under Mild Conditions

Lei Zhou et al.

Summary: Cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene iridium complexes are highly efficient in thermal dehydrogenation and hydrolysis of ammonia-borane, releasing hydrogen gas quickly under mild conditions. Kinetic studies show that the catalyst can be recycled multiple times without significant loss of activity.
