Reconstitution and Transmission of Gut Microbiomes and Their Genes between Generations

Eugene Rosenberg et al.

Summary: Microbiomes are transmitted between generations through various vertical and horizontal modes, involving both maternal and environmental transmission. Despite the different modes of transmission, microbiomes and their functions are accurately passed from one generation to the next.

Summary: The study found that avian cellular immunity can be influenced by age, sex, brood size, and daily rhythm. Early-stage nestlings relied more on cells of the innate immunity rather than on cells linked to the adaptive immune system.

Host development overwhelms environmental dispersal in governing the ecological succession of zebrafish gut microbiota

Fanshu Xiao et al.

Summary: The developmental stage of the host significantly influences the succession of gut microbiota in zebrafish, with environmental factors having less impact. Zebrafish gut microbiotas are clearly separated by developmental stages. With host development, the level of homogeneous selection governing gut microbiota succession increases.

The Gut Microbial Composition Is Species-Specific and Individual-Specific in Two Species of Estrildid Finches, the Bengalese Finch and the Zebra Finch

Oncu Maraci et al.

Summary: Microbial communities in the gastrointestinal tracts of animals have significant impacts on host physiological processes. Host-specific and environmental factors interact in shaping gut microbial communities in humans, resulting in inter-individual differences. However, the extent to which microbes are individual-specific and controlled by host-specific factors across different animal taxa remains not fully understood.

Impact of early-life rearing history on gut microbiome succession and performance of Nile tilapia

Yale Deng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of early microbial colonisation on the gut microbiome and growth of Nile tilapia. Results showed that larvae cultured in biofloc system (BFS) exhibited better growth and different gut microbiome compared to flow-through system (FTS). Despite initial differences, long-term effects on gut microbiome composition, nutrient digestibility, and growth performance in later life were not observed, indicating that the legacy effect gradually disappeared during host development. However, BFS-reared fish exhibited increased gut microbial interactions, potentially benefiting gut health in juvenile Nile tilapia.
