Simultaneously optimized thermoelectric and mechanical performance of p-type polycrystalline SnSe enabled by CNTs addition

Xiaofang Liu et al.

Summary: A series of SnSe/carbon nanotubes composites with homogeneous distribution of CNTs were successfully fabricated by combining solution synthesis with fast sintering. The addition of CNTs significantly improved both the electrical conductivity and power factor, while suppressing the lattice thermal conductivity, leading to enhanced thermoelectric performance. Moreover, the composite exhibited an increased compressive strength due to the presence of CNTs.

Enhanced thermoelectric properties of ZnO: C doping and band gap tuning

Yin Wu et al.

Summary: C-doping in ZnO was achieved through a facile and speedy SPS technique, improving electrical conductivity and power factor by reducing band gap and increasing carrier concentration. Meanwhile, introduced point defects strengthened phonon scattering and decreased thermal conductivity, leading to a peak ZT value of 0.024 at 773 K for Zn(O,C) bulk. This demonstrates that C-doping in ZnO is an effective and convenient strategy to enhance thermoelectric performance.

Thermoelectric Performance Enhancement in BiSbTe Alloy by Microstructure Modulation via Cyclic Spark Plasma Sintering with Liquid Phase

Hua-Lu Zhuang et al.

Summary: The study emphasizes the importance of the synthesis process for achieving high performance in Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric materials. By applying cyclic spark plasma liquid phase sintering, a unique microstructure with enlarged grains and abundant nanostructures can be formed, leading to high charge carrier mobility and low lattice thermal conductivity. This results in a significantly higher ZT value compared to conventionally spark-plasma-sintered materials.

Nanoplates forced alignment of multi-walled carbon nanotubes in alumina composite with high strength and toughness

Tufail Mustafa et al.

Summary: The alignment of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in alumina composites can be easily achieved by using alpha-Al2O3 nanoplates as raw powder, resulting in a significant improvement in strength and toughness. This is mainly attributed to the effective load transfer and energy dissipating bridging and pullout mechanisms of the highly aligned MWCNTs embedded in the alumina matrix.
