This article provides a comprehensive review of the novel power and signal dual modulation (PSDM) technology with power converters. The principle of PSDM is introduced, and the implementation methods are categorized based on the signal forms and injection mechanisms. The merits and demerits of various PSDM methods in each category are analyzed, and comparative analyses and discussions are presented. The article is expected to stimulate further in-depth research and inspire new ideas in this area within the current research framework.
Power electronics technology was only aimed at power conversion. However, with its development toward intelligence and modularization, communication needs to be integrated, and later on the info nature of power converters is proposed. In this scenario, simultaneous power conversion and communication with power converters attract lots of attention, of which power and signal dual modulation (PSDM) is the key. This article reviews novel PSDM technology with power converters. The principle for PSDM is introduced first. Implementation methods are then categorized in terms of the signal forms and injection mechanisms. Subsequently, the merits and demerits of various PSDM methods in each category are analyzed. Finally, comparative analyses and discussions of PSDM methods are presented. With the comprehensive review on PSDM methods, this article is expected to attract more in-depth research in current research framework and inspire new ideas in this area.
