Space Spread-Spectrum Strategy for MMC to Reduce the Conducted EMI

Yue Shan et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel spread-spectrum (SS) strategy called space spread-spectrum (SSS) to effectively suppress the conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) of modular multilevel converter (MMC). The SSS strategy achieves this by making the carrier frequency of each submodule different. The principle, formula derivation, and methods for determining carrier frequency distribution are elaborated. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the SSS strategy in reducing EMI and addressing other issues such as circulating current, switching frequency, and switching loss.

A Separate Floating Heatsink Based Suppression Method for Conducted Common-Mode EM

Yangxiao Xiang et al.

Summary: This article proposes a separate floating heatsink based suppression method (SFHBSM) to effectively suppress high-frequency conducted common-mode (CM) electromagnetic interference (EMI) by improving both the CM EMI source and the propagation path. The SFHBSM achieves nonringing CM EMI source and provides effective blocking for the CM EMI propagation in the high-frequency domain. Experiments show that SFHBSM achieves EMI reduction in almost the whole high-frequency domain with up to 35 dB attenuation in a two-level three-phase power converter.
