Regional Lung Perfusion Analysis in Experimental ARDS by Electrical Impedance and Computed Tomography

Michael Kircher et al.

Summary: Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) was used to detect pulmonary perfusion by introducing an indicator-enhanced method, which was validated against dynamic multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in experimental models of acute respiratory distress syndrome. The study found strong correlation and agreement between EIT and MDCT perfusion estimations in healthy and regionally injured lungs, demonstrating the feasibility of EIT perfusion imaging.

Imaging slow brain activity during neocortical and hippocampal epileptiform events with electrical impedance tomography

Sana Hannan et al.

Summary: This study characterized the slow impedance response during neocortical and hippocampal epileptiform events in rat brain using electrical impedance tomography (EIT), revealing consistent time-matching of impedance changes with the end of seizures. The generated EIT images showed activity foci spatially confined to specific brain regions, indicating the potential for utilizing slow impedance response as a reliable marker of hypersynchronous neuronal activity during epileptic seizures.

Comparative contribution of magnetoencephalography (MEG) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in pre-operative localization for epilepsy surgery: A prospective blinded study

Kirandeep Kaur et al.

Summary: This study compared the diagnostic value and accuracy of ictal SPECT and inter-ictal magnetoencephalography (MEG) in localizing the site for surgery in drug resistant epilepsy patients. SPECT was found to be non-informative for most patients, but reported better diagnostic output than MEG. MEG may be a useful alternative for patients in whom SPECT cannot be done or was non-localizing.

Use of Innovative SPECT Techniques in the Presurgical Evaluation of Patients with Nonlesional Extratemporal Drug-Resistant Epilepsy

Ahmed Yassin et al.

Summary: Up to 30% of epilepsy patients may not respond to antiepileptic drugs and require surgical treatment. Drug-resistant nonlesional extratemporal lobe epilepsy poses the biggest challenge in localizing the seizure onset zone and needs multiple diagnostic investigations.
