Results of subjective visual vertical tests in patients with vertigo/dizziness

Masaharu Sakagami et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the abnormality rates of head-upright SVV (HU-SVV) and head-tilt SVV (HT-SVV) in patients with different types of vertigo/dizziness. The results showed that the combined HT-SVV and HU-SVV test could better detect gravity perception disturbance in patients with peripheral vestibular diseases.

Acute vestibular syndrome: is skew deviation a central sign?

Athanasia Korda et al.

Summary: The study found that skew deviation is more prevalent in patients with acute vestibular syndrome (AVS), particularly in those with acute unilateral vestibulopathy (AUVP). However, clinical and video tests of skew did not provide additional diagnostic value compared to other tests, such as the head impulse test and nystagmus test.

HINTS Examination in Acute Vestibular Neuritis: Do Not Look Too Hard for the Skew

Kemar E. Green et al.

Summary: Seven cases of typical AVN with an OTR are presented in this study, where all patients displayed typical features of AVN along with a complete OTR. The presence of a subtle 1 prism diopter hyperphoria was a common feature among these patients, indicating a possible association with AVN.

Different time course of compensation of subjective visual vertical and ocular torsion after acute unilateral vestibular lesion

Mario Faralli et al.

Summary: The recovery time course of otolithic dis-function caused by superior vestibular neuritis varies among patients, with most patients seeing a return to normal values within a few months for subjective visual vertical but remaining abnormal for ocular cyclotorsion even a year later. The dissociation between the recovery of these two signs suggests distinct re-balancing circuits within the otolithic system.

Head Roll-Tilt Subjective Visual Vertical Test in the Diagnosis of Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness

Chihiro Yagi et al.

Summary: High head tilt perception gain (HTPG) in the head roll-tilt subjective visual vertical (HT-SVV) test may be a specific marker for discriminating persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) from other chronic vestibular diseases, as conventional vestibular tests did not show abnormalities in PPPD.
