An assessment of potential biomarkers of environment enteropathy and its association with age and microbial infections among children in Bangladesh

Muhammad Ikhtear Uddin et al.

Summary: The study found that levels of EndoCab and sCD14 in serum of infants were associated with increasing cumulative incidence of enteric infections, while fecal MPO levels were correlated with the total number of bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections as well as episodes and duration of diarrhea. Additionally, levels of serum EndoCab, sCD14, and fecal MPO in early infancy were predictive of malnutrition status at 18 months of age.

Vibrio cholerae Sialidase-Specific Immune Responses Are Associated with Protection against Cholera

M. Hasanul Kaisar et al.

Summary: The study found that cholera patients develop age-related immune responses against sialidase, with adults and older children showing more significant antibody responses compared to younger children. The presence of serum anti-sialidase antibodies was associated with a decreased risk of subsequent infection in household contacts.
