Electronic Structure Insights into the Tunable Luminescence of CuAlxFe1-xS2/ZnS Nanocrystals

Ranjana Yadav et al.

Summary: The study discusses the electronic structure and spectroscopic properties of CuAlxFe1-xS2 nanocrystals and their core/shell structures. By varying the mole fraction of aluminum and iron, the band gap of the material can be tuned across the visible to near-infrared spectrum. The significant bowing effect is attributed to the localization of Fe electronic states in the material. This nanocrystal fluorophore demonstrates tunable photoluminescence from 400 to 1400 nm, composing entirely of earth abundant elements.

Iron-Content-Dependent, Quasi-Static Dielectric Resonances and Oxidative Transitions in Bornite and Chalcopyrite Copper Iron Sulfide Nanocrystals

Soohyung Lee et al.

Summary: By manipulating the iron content of bornite-phase copper iron sulfide nanocrystals, tunable optical characteristics from visible to near-infrared can be achieved, attributed to two different types of resonant excitations. Decreasing the iron content in the nanocrystals leads to a reduction in the intensity of quasi-static dielectric resonance and an increase in hole-induced localized surface plasmon resonance in the near-infrared.

Entropy stabilized off-stoichiometric cubic γ-Cu1-xIx phase containing high-density Cu vacancies

Kyunghan Ahn et al.

Summary: The study found that in copper-rich conditions, nearly stoichiometric phases of copper iodide with quenched copper-vacancy defects are the ground state, while in iodine-rich conditions, off-stoichiometric phases containing high-density copper vacancies are stabilized. These off-stoichiometric phases hinder hole transport and reduce hole mobility due to the presence of high-density neutral copper vacancies.
