Pore space of steatite ceramics triggered by the allowance of natural fibers: High-resolution X-ray microscopy analysis and related thermo-mechanical properties

Lukas Perfler et al.

Summary: In this study, a large number of porous steatite ceramic rods were prepared using renewable plant fiber products as pore-forming agents. The three-dimensional pore space and microstructure were investigated using high-resolution 3D X-ray microscopy. The effect of porosity on the physical properties of the ceramics was evaluated, and it was found that increasing porosity leads to a decrease in flexural strength and thermal conductivity values.

Effects of Saturation Levels on the Ultrasonic Pulse Velocities and Mechanical Properties of Concrete

Ma. Doreen Esplana Candelaria et al.

Summary: The research found that the saturation level of concrete affects the velocities of ultrasonic waves and mechanical properties of concrete, with the relationship between P-wave velocity and compressive strength being highly sensitive to saturation condition. In contrast, S-wave velocity is closely correlated with compressive strength but less sensitive to water saturation level. The water saturation condition has little effect on the relationship between dynamic and elastic moduli of elasticity of concrete studied in this research.

Effect of Ti and its compounds on the mechanical properties and microstructure of B4C ceramics fabricated via pressureless sintering

Guanqi Liu et al.

Summary: The addition of Ti and its compounds to B4C ceramics has been found to enhance fracture toughness, densification characteristics, and mechanical properties. Among the different Ti-based compounds, TiC showed the most optimal mechanical properties in terms of fracture toughness, flexural strength, hardness, and elastic modulus in the B4C-TiB2 multiphase ceramics.
