A Fast Regression-Based Approach to Map Water Status of Pomegranate Orchards with Sentinel 2 Data

Enrico Borgogno-Mondino et al.

Summary: Remote sensing, specifically Copernicus Sentinel 2 data, is a promising alternative for monitoring the water status of pomegranate plants and addressing irrigation management. The study showed the potential of spectral indices and S2 bands in estimating stem water potential readings, and indicated that native S2 data are more effective in predicting stem water potential values in pomegranate orchards.

High Resolution Land Cover Integrating Copernicus Products: A 2012-2020 Map of Italy

Paolo De Fioravante et al.

Summary: This study conducted an in-depth analysis of land cover and land use data in Italy, aiming to produce a reliable map for evaluating ecosystem services. The research utilized data from the Copernicus Programme's land monitoring service, as well as national and regional land cover and land use maps. By standardizing classification systems and integrating the data, a raster land cover map with a 10-meter spatial resolution was created. The map was validated and compared with CORINE Land Cover, showing significant improvements in geometric and thematic accuracy for a more detailed and reliable assessment of ecosystem services. Specifically, the map was used to estimate the change in carbon storage capacity in Italy between 2012 and 2020, linked to land consumption.

Mapping SAR geometric distortions and their stability along time: a new tool in Google Earth Engine based on Sentinel-1 image time series

De Petris Samuele et al.

Summary: The operational services based on SAR data hold potential, but are hindered by the complexity of data pre-processing. A trigonometry-based mapping method in GEE was implemented in this study to generate distortion maps and evaluate the reliability of SAR data for information deduction. The results show that this methodology can effectively mask unreliable observations and inform users about the areas suitable for SAR data monitoring.
