Immediate Effects of Weight-Bearing Calf Stretching on Ankle Dorsiflexion Range of Motion and Plantar Pressure During Gait in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Noriaki Maeshige et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of intermittent weight-bearing stretching on ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) and plantar pressure in patients with diabetes mellitus. The results showed that ankle dorsiflexion ROM significantly increased after stretching, and plantar pressure decreased, especially in the forefoot. These findings suggest that weight-bearing calf stretching may be an effective method for preventing and treating diabetic foot ulcers.

Reliability of recommended non-invasive chairside screening tests for diabetes-related peripheral neuropathy: a systematic review with meta-analyses

Ally McIllhatton et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the reliability of testing methods for diagnosis of diabetes-related peripheral neuropathy (DPN) recommended by guidelines, with acceptable inter-rater reliability found for vibration perception threshold (VPT), ankle reflex testing, and four-site monofilament. Pinprick and 128 Hz tuning fork showed weak inter-rater reliability, while the intra-rater reliability of the 128 Hz tuning fork was moderate. Results support the clinical use of VPT, ankle reflexes, and four-site monofilament for screening and ongoing monitoring of DPN according to the latest guidelines.

Foot-ankle functional outcomes of using the Diabetic Foot Guidance System (SOPeD) for people with diabetic neuropathy: a feasibility study for the single-blind randomized controlled FOotCAre (FOCA) trial I

Ronaldo H. Cruvinel Junior et al.

Summary: The study assessed the feasibility, safety, acceptability, and changes in foot health and neuropathy symptoms in people with diabetes after 12 weeks of the intervention program with SOPeD. The internet-based foot-ankle exercise program using SOPeD was found to be feasible, satisfactory, and safe, with moderate adherence and no dropout rates observed. Recruitment strategies need to be improved for larger trials.
