Full-scale bioremediation of petroleum-contaminated soils via integration of co-composting

Amir Parnian et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of co-composting, a biological technique, for the remediation of oil-polluted soil. After three months of operation, the total petroleum hydrocarbon content in the polluted soil significantly reduced. The remediated soil was then added back to the surrounding environment to support the growth of the natural ecosystem.

Combination of zeolite barrier and bio sparging techniques to enhance efficiency of organic hydrocarbon remediation in a model of shallow groundwater

Zeinab Ahmadnezhad et al.

Summary: Adsorption and bioremediation processes have been studied for the remediation of BTE through PRBs. The combination of natural zeolite and bacterial strains in a PRB system showed efficient removal of BTE mixture, indicating the potential for field-scale application. This research highlights the high efficiency of C-HZ in BTE treatment and the improved remediation efficiency of CH-Z ePRB method in restricting BTE migration.

Aerobic composting remediation of petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil. Current and future perspectives

Huu-Tuan Tran et al.

Summary: This article provides a comprehensive review of aerobic composting technology for remediating soil contaminated with total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs). The studies show that composting can successfully treat TPH contamination in various types of soils, with removal efficiencies as high as 99%. Factors such as soil type, oxidation reactions, and biodegradation rates are key to the composting process and need to be monitored and controlled for successful degradation.
