Phase and microstructure control of electrodeposited Manganese Oxide with enhanced optical properties

Roberto Cestaro et al.

Summary: In this study, Mn3O4 and Mn2O3 were synthesized through electrodeposition and thermal treatment. The effects of different parameters on the structure and optical properties of manganese oxides were investigated, and it was found that the applied voltage played a key role in controlling the valence state of initial amorphous manganese.

Structural coloration of AISI 321 steel surfaces textured by ultrasonic impact treatment

D. A. Polonyankin et al.

Summary: This study reports the appearance of iridescent spectral patterns on AISI 321 steel surfaces subjected to ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT). The changes in phase composition and chemical composition of the steel surface after UIT are analyzed. SEM and AFM analysis confirm the formation of periodic surface structures coinciding with visible light wavelengths. Diffraction of light is identified as the main reason for the appearance of spectral patterns on UIT-textured steel surfaces. This research provides a possible basis for non-destructive spectral control and indirect monitoring of the performance of UIT equipment.

Summary: Ion beam treatment was used to functionalize the surfaces of multi-walled carbon nanotubes, resulting in a uniform distribution of metal oxides and improved interfacial adhesion in composite materials. M-O-C bonds were found to form between metal oxides and oxygen-containing functional groups on the carbon nanotubes.

Flexible supercapacitors based on free-standing polyaniline/single-walled carbon nanotube films

Iurii V. Panasenko et al.

Summary: Advancements in supercapacitor performance are driven by both material design and device architecture adjustments. This study focuses on designing unique dead-weight free supercapacitors based on PANI electrochemically deposited on free-standing SWCNT films. The research shows that thin free-standing films of SWCNTs with deposited PANI are less prone to self-discharge, enabling higher gravimetric capacitance values.

In situ X-ray diffraction studies on the production process of rhenium

Simon Keilholz et al.

Summary: In this study, the production process of rhenium powder was investigated using in situ X-ray powder diffraction. The reaction between rhenium and hydrogen was found to be absent below 550 K, while crystallinity increased at 1173 K. Annealing under hydrogen or nitrogen resulted in comparable products.

Free vibration and buckling analyses of FG porous sandwich curved microbeams in thermal environment under magnetic field based on modified couple stress theory

Ehsan Arshid et al.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of porous sandwich structures with different numbers of layers, considering factors such as thermal environment effects, functionally graded materials, and carbon nanotube-reinforced composites. The results showed that increasing the central opening angle can reduce natural frequencies and critical buckling loads, increasing the porosity coefficient will decrease these values, but increasing the CNTs content will have the opposite effect.

Comparative Study of the Structural Features and Electrochemical Properties of Nitrogen-Containing Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes after Ion-Beam Irradiation and Hydrochloric Acid Treatment

Petr M. Korusenko et al.

Summary: A detailed study was conducted on nitrogen-containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (N-MWCNTs) and their modified derivatives to investigate the relationship between their structure and electrochemical properties. It was found that treatment of the nanotubes can lead to an increase in specific capacitance due to an increase in redox capacitance. The rate of redox reactions involving oxygen-containing functional groups (OCFGs) was significantly higher than reactions with nitrogen inclusions in the pyridinic and pyrrolic forms.
