Tunable upconversion emission from oil-based carbon nanodots

Naveen Kumar Reddy Bogireddy et al.

Summary: Carbon dots prepared using 10-Undeceonic acid as an organic precursor exhibit broad range excitation wavelength-dependent photoluminescence, with excitation wavelength-dependent upconversion and downconversion photoluminescence. The UCPL/DCPL can be explained by the presence of surface states, shallow and deep trap states in the carbon dots.

Surface Photoluminescence of Oxidized Nanodiamonds: Influence of Environment pH

Alexey M. Vervald et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of environmental pH on the surface photoluminescence of oxidized NDs of various syntheses and surface treatments, showing that the PL of NDs varies with pH in specific ranges. The changes in NDs' PL are attributed to the (de)protonation of surface groups, carboxyl at pH 2-5 and hydroxyl at pH 9-12.5, indicating the potential for tuning NDs' surface photoluminescence beyond surface group control.

Development of the fluorescent carbon nanosensor for pH and temperature of liquid media with artificial neural networks

O. E. Sarmanova et al.

Summary: This study focuses on creating optical nanosensors for pH and temperature of liquid media using carbon dots prepared via hydrothermal synthesis. By applying artificial neural networks to the CD fluorescence spectra database, simultaneous determination of pH and ambient temperature values with high accuracy was achieved. The results suggest the potential of developing a multifunctional CD-based nanosensor operating in a wide temperature range with significantly improved pH determination accuracy compared to existing nanoscale analogs.

Femtosecond Optical Nonlinearity of Nanodiamond Suspensions

Gennady M. Mikheev et al.

Summary: This study compared the nonlinear optical properties of high pressure-high temperature (HP-HT) nanodiamonds and detonation nanodiamonds under femtosecond laser excitation for the first time. The results showed that HP-HT nanodiamonds exhibited optical limiting due to two-photon absorption, while detonation nanodiamonds exhibited saturable absorption. This study revealed the different electronic-gap structures of the two types of nanodiamonds, highlighting their potential for different applications in photonics.
