The association between trunk control and upper limb functions of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Numan Bulut et al.

Summary: This study suggests an association between trunk control and upper limb function in children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Children with better trunk control showed better upper limb function and muscular strength. These findings emphasize the importance of improving and protecting trunk stability and upper limb strength, as well as optimizing trunk stability during upper limb movement in rehabilitation programs.

Morbidity, Clinical Course and Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 Virus in Patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: A Patient Reported Survey

Eliza Wasilewska et al.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence and course of COVID-19 infection, vaccination status, and COVID-19 related anxiety among patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The results showed that DMD patients had a mild course of COVID-19 infection, low vaccination rates, and significant anxiety related to vaccination and COVID-19 infection. Education on the management of COVID-19 infections and vaccination procedures for DMD patients is necessary.

RBF Sliding Mode Control Method for an Upper Limb Rehabilitation Exoskeleton Based on Intent Recognition

Dezhi Kong et al.

Summary: This study proposed a radial basis function sliding mode impedance control method based on surface electromyography (sEMG) to identify the movement intention of upper limb rehabilitation. The study first established a joint angle prediction model based on sEMG and then proposed an adaptive sliding mode controller to address the issue of poor compliance in rehabilitation training.

Selection of Kinematic and Temporal Input Parameters to Define a Novel Upper Body Index Indicator for the Evaluation of Upper Limb Pathology

Agata Guzik-Kopyto et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a novel indicator for upper limb manipulative movements. By analyzing kinematic measurements of upper limb movements during an everyday activity, a set of parameters were defined and the Upper Body Index (UBI) was developed to assess manipulative movements. The UBI indicator can detect deviations from the standard performance of upper limb movements.

Neural and biomechanical tradeoffs associated with human-exoskeleton interactions

Yibo Zhu et al.

Summary: This study found that while industrial passive low-back exoskeletons may have some biomechanical benefits, these benefits diminish with the introduction of cognitive dual-tasks, increasing neurocognitive and motor adaptation efforts. The wearer's biomechanical response to increased cognitive demands in the workplace may offset the mechanical advantages of exoskeletons.

A preliminary investigation on upper limb exoskeleton assistance for simulated agricultural tasks

Hazreen H. Harith et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of using an upper limb exoskeleton to assist oil palm harvesting tasks. The potential of exoskeleton technology in reducing musculoskeletal discomfort and improving efficiency in agricultural activities is highlighted. Although the use of exoskeletons can reduce muscle activity in tasks involving overhead work, the design needs to be optimized for better user acceptance.

Respiratory Telerehabilitation of Boys and Young Men with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in the COVID-19 Pandemic

Agnieszka Sobierajska-Rek et al.

Summary: The study found that respiratory telerehabilitation can be implemented for DMD patients, with caregivers willing to perform suggested exercises weekly or daily. However, the interest in digital rehabilitation among DMD caregivers in Poland is low, indicating a need for further research on the reasons behind this.

Is It Possible to Have Home E-Monitoring of Pulmonary Function in Our Patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in the COVID-19 Pandemic?-A One Center Pilot Study

Eliza Wasilewska et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility of monitoring pulmonary function in DMD patients at home using individual electronic spirometry. Patients with higher FEV1 and lower BMI were more likely to perform home spirometry. Patients generally expressed satisfaction with home spirometry but require more education about the benefits of e-monitoring.
