The effect of combined spinal epidural versus epidural analgesia on fetal heart rate in laboring patients at risk for uteroplacental insufficiency

Erin Maetzold et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of intrapartum epidural analgesia (EA) and combined spinal epidural analgesia (CSE) on fetal heart rate changes in pregnancies at risk for uteroplacental insufficiency (UPI). The results showed that both EA and CSE had similar impacts on fetal heart rate categories and abnormalities. However, the CSE group had a higher rate of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission.

A survey of labour epidural practices at obstetric anesthesia fellowship programs in the United States

Elliott Callahan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the practices of labor epidural analgesia in obstetric anesthesiology fellowship programs in the United States. The survey results showed that there were clear patterns in the use of combined spinal epidural, continuous epidural infusion, and patient-controlled epidural analgesia despite the variability in practice.

Maternal haemodynamics during labour epidural analgesia with and without adrenaline

Felix Haidl et al.

Summary: The addition of 2 μg/mL adrenaline to the epidural solution is unlikely to alter maternal hemodynamics during labor. No significant changes were observed in peak systolic blood pressure, peak cardiac output, or heart rate after epidural activation, regardless of whether adrenaline was added or not, indicating good analgesic effects without significant maternal hemodynamic alterations.
