Biofuel Generation from Potato Peel Waste: Current State and Prospects

Omojola Awogbemi et al.

Summary: Growing demand for biofuels due to environmental concerns and increased population has been limited by the high cost of production. This study explores the application of potato peel waste (PPW) for biofuel production. The current state of using PPW for bioethanol, biogas, and biohydrogen production is reviewed.

Renewable hydrogen production by dark-fermentation: Current status, challenges and perspectives

Shikha Dahiya et al.

Summary: Global urbanization has led to increased energy and material consumption, along with a rise in waste generation. The demand for carbon-neutral energy sources like biohydrogen is on the rise, but challenges in production scale-up, process limitations, and economic viability remain. Integration of processes and closed loop biorefinery approaches are being explored for achieving carbon neutral hydrogen production.

A lab fermenter level study on anaerobic hydrogen fermentation using potato peel waste: effect of pH, temperature, and substrate pre-treatment

Khushboo Swapnil Bhurat et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the potential of hydrogen production from kitchen waste, specifically potato peels, through dark fermentation at specific conditions. Utilizing sewage sludge inoculum, the production of fermentative hydrogen from waste potato peels is shown to be feasible at mesophilic temperature in a bench-scale batch fermenter.

Enhanced H2 production by deletion of the Tfx family DNA-binding protein in the hyperthermophilic archaeon Thermococcus onnurineus NA1

Seong Hyuk Lee et al.

Summary: The archaeal transcription regulator gene TON_1525 affects carbon monoxide metabolism in Thermococcus onnurineus NA1 by regulating the expression of various genes, including hydrogenase genes. A gene deletion mutant (D1525) showed differential expression of 351 genes, with increased expression of mbh and mch genes. The H2 production rates of D1525 mutant were significantly enhanced on maltodextrin and carbon monoxide substrates.
