Charge order and superconductivity in kagome materials

Titus Neupert et al.

Summary: Superconductivity and ordered states have been observed in a family of kagome materials, with lattice geometry, topological electron behavior, and competition between ground states playing key roles in determining material properties. The compounds KV3Sb5, CsV3Sb5, and RbV3Sb5 exhibit a kagome net of vanadium atoms, showing superconductivity at low temperatures and unusual charge order at high temperatures, connecting to the underlying topological nature of the band structure. This highlights the importance of these discoveries in the context of wider research efforts in topological physics and superconductivity, while also discussing open problems in this field.

Kohn anomalies in topological insulator thin films: first-principles study

Minjae Ghim et al.

Summary: The Kohn anomaly is a non-smooth phonon softening caused by electron-phonon coupling in low-dimensional metals and topological materials. It is still unclear whether the controversy over the existence of the Kohn anomaly is due to numerical shortcomings or misinterpretation in measurements.

Influence of Doping on the Topological Surface States of Crystalline Bi2Se3 Topological Insulators

Kamil Nowak et al.

Summary: In this study, we used STM/STS, ARPES, and magnetotransport techniques to investigate the surface topography and electronic structure of pristine Bi2Se3, as well as doped Bi1.96Mg0.04Se3 and Bi1.98Fe0.02Se3. We found a large number of complex, triangle-shaped defects on the surface and observed that the local electronic structure at the defects was influenced by doping in the same way as the electronic structure of the undefected surface. ARPES measurements provided additional information about the electronic structure, showing the dependence of bulk and surface electronic bands on doping. Magneto-transport measurements confirmed the subtle changes in the surface electronic structure induced by doping.

Revealing a charge-density-wave gap in the predicted weak topological insulator HoSbTe

J. L. Liu et al.

Summary: Through infrared spectroscopy, we discovered that HoSbTe compound exhibits metallic behavior at low temperatures, with a decrease in itinerant carrier density and scattering rate as the temperature decreases. Additionally, we observed the appearance of a charge-density-wave (CDW) gap and a band splitting induced by SOC, opening the door for further exploration of intriguing physics.

A charge-density-wave topological semimetal

Wujun Shi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that (TaSe4)(2)I is a Weyl semimetal with 24 pairs of Weyl nodes at room temperature, and also exhibits an established charge-density wave instability. The charge-density wave in (TaSe4)(2)I couples the bulk Weyl points and opens a bandgap, providing a pathway for exploring the interplay of correlations and topology in a solid-state material.

Electron-phonon coupling in superconducting 1T-PdTe2

Gloria Anemone et al.

Summary: The electron-phonon interaction in type II Dirac semimetallic 1T-PdTe2 has been determined using helium atom scattering, indicating a substantial electron-phonon coupling which is crucial for its superconductivity. This coupling value, along with the surface Debye temperature, accurately predicts the superconducting critical temperature, suggesting that the topological states of a Dirac cone have minimal influence on the onset of superconductivity.

Spin density wave order in interacting type-I and type-II Weyl semimetals

Sarbajaya Kundu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of local repulsive interaction on a Weyl semimetal model, revealing a continuous transition from a gapless phase to a gapped spin density wave phase at a critical interaction strength. Introducing a finite tilt in the linear dispersion in a type-II Weyl semimetal model diminishes the critical interaction strength, indicating higher susceptibility towards interactions. The behavior of various physical quantities associated with Weyl nodes in both semimetallic and magnetically ordered states is examined.

Structural and electronic inhomogeneity of superconducting Nb-doped Bi2Se3

Simone M. Kevy et al.

Summary: Investigation of crystals with the nominal composition Nb0.25Bi2Se3 reveals phase segregation and major contributions of BiSe and (BiSe)1.1NbSe2. The inhomogeneous character of the samples is reflected in the electronic structure and transport properties, with high-quality topological surface states observed using nanoARPES. The superconducting transition temperature varies between 2.5 and 3.5 K, with filamentary superconductivity suggested in the majority of bulk single crystals. Susceptibility measurements and coherence length analysis suggest conventional BCS superconductivity in the system.
