Exposure to Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles Induces Acute and Chronic Inflammatory Responses in Rat Lungs and Perturbs the Lung Microbiome

Mi-Jin Jeong et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction between the lung microbiome and inflammatory responses in rats exposed to NiO NPs. The results demonstrate that NiO NPs can induce neutrophilic and lymphocytic inflammatory responses in the rat lung, as well as alter the lung microbial composition, with an increase in Burkholderiales. These findings suggest that dysbiosis in the lung microbiome may be associated with lung inflammation caused by NiO NPs exposure.
