Bimetallic Cu-Zn Catalysts for Electrochemical CO2 Reduction: Phase-Separated versus Core-Shell Distribution

Lili Wan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of two types of Cu-Zn bimetallic catalysts with different structures in electrochemical CO2 reduction. The phase-separated sample exhibits higher activity and stability in reducing CO2 to CO compared to the core-shell sample. Density functional theory calculation reveals a lower energy barrier and a more thermodynamically stable state in the phase-separated sample.

MOF-derived Cu@Cu2O heterogeneous electrocatalyst with moderate intermediates adsorption for highly selective reduction of CO2 to methanol

Xian Yang et al.

Summary: A novel MOF-derived Cu@Cu2O heterogeneous electrocatalyst was proposed for improving the Faradaic efficiency of CO2 reduction to methanol, with moderate intermediates adsorption. The presence of a distinct interface between Cu and Cu2O, along with Cu-0/Cu+ and OH on catalyst surfaces, facilitated the hydrogenation reduction of CO2 to methanol. The most favorable reduction route of CO2 to methanol was identified, with the electrocatalyst exhibiting a high peak FECH3OH attributed to synergistic effect between Cu-0 and Cu+ active sites.

Confined growth and dispersion of FeP nanoparticles in highly mesoporous carbons as efficient electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction

Munzir H. Suliman et al.

Summary: The mesopore size of the carbon is a key design parameter for iron monophosphide (FeP) catalysts supported on highly mesoporous carbons (HMCs) for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Smaller mesopores lead to finely dispersed and smaller FeP nanocrystals, while larger mesopores result in larger and agglomerated nanoparticles, impacting the activity of the catalysts. Electrocatalysts based on FeP immobilized on mesoporous carbons show lower overpotential and Tafel slope compared to those based on commercial activated carbon, indicating the importance of mesopore size in determining the performance of electrocatalysts.
