Structurally Unraveling the Photocarrier Behavior of Cu2O/ZnO Heterojunction Photodetectors

Shen Zhong et al.

Summary: This study reveals the generation and transport behavior of photocarriers in self-powered Cu2O/ZnO heterojunction photodetectors. The thickness of the functional layer plays a crucial role in determining the generation and transport of photocarriers, with an increase in carrier number and impeded carrier transport as the functional layer is prolonged. By tuning the length of ZnO nanorods, a structurally designed photodetector with high responsivity, fast response speed, and long-term stability is achieved.

Additive and subtractive modification of butterfly wing structural colors

Krisztian Kertesz et al.

Summary: The modification of photonic nanoarchitectures in butterfly wing scales with different nanostructures was studied both experimentally and through modeling. By using additive ALD and subtractive plasma etching, the color of all nanoarchitectures on butterfly wings could be controlled. Physical models like Langmuir-Blodgett multilayers were used to simulate the effects, with more complex structures showing variations in alterations attributed to their porous structures.

Spectral Engineering and Morphological Tuning of Amino Acid Capped Hydrophilic Upconversion Nanophosphors

Kumbam Lingeshwar Reddy et al.

Summary: The study developed a simple method to tune the emission color of lanthanide-based upconversion nanophosphors by varying the concentration of the pyroglutamic acid derivative as a capping agent, resulting in a visual color tuning from red to green. The change in color was accompanied by a transformation in the morphological and crystal structure of the nanostructures.

Summary: Spectrally tunable nanoporous anodic alumina distributed Bragg reflectors (NAA-DBRs) modified with titanium dioxide (TiO2) coatings were used as optoelectronic platforms to utilize slow light for photocatalysis. The performance of the photocatalysts is influenced by the spectral position of the photonic stop band (PSB) and thickness of the semiconductor, with optimal performance achieved when the red edge of the PSB is close to the red or blue boundary of the absorbance band of methylene blue (MB).

Stephanie A. Rivest et al.

Summary: The frequency of introducing non-native species is increasing, but only a few become invasive. This study investigated the ecology of the European common blue butterfly in Canada, finding that its abundance is highest in areas with moderate habitat disturbance and urban landscapes, and it has low to moderate dispersal ability. Further research is needed to understand potential range-constraining factors and the trajectory of its range expansion.
