Guiding Graphene Derivatization for the On-Chip Multisensor Arrays: From the Synthesis to the Theoretical Background

Maxim K. Rabchinskii et al.

Summary: Engineering the physics and chemistry of 2D materials can unlock the potential of advanced e-nose technologies. The study demonstrates the adjustment of graphene's morphology, physics, and gas sensing properties through carboxylation. Carboxylation results in the formation of holey structures and affects the conduction mechanism and electronic structure of graphene. Carboxylated graphene shows enhanced detection and discrimination of various alcohols, acetone, and ammonia vapors at room temperature.

Influence of numerous Moir?e superlattices on transport properties of twisted multilayer graphene

Oleg Kononenko et al.

Summary: Band structure engineering through changing the parameters of Moire superlattices can create materials with outstanding properties. This study demonstrated the strong dependence of the transport properties of twisted multilayer graphene (tMLG) on its structural characteristics. tMLG with a large content of the twisted phase was found to have perfect structure and extraordinary transport characteristics, while changes in the content of the twisted phase led to a significant decrease in transport properties. Therefore, tMLG is a better choice for the nanoelectronics industry.

Valence Band Structure Engineering in Graphene Derivatives

Vladimir V. Shnitov et al.

Summary: This study examines the engineering of 2D materials' electronic structure, focusing on how the introduction of functional groups affects the valence band. Core-level spectroscopy methods and density functional theory modeling are used to reveal the modification of graphene's valence band upon derivatization, with a proposed empirical approach to analyze and predict these effects. The results provide insight into band structure engineering of graphene derivatives and the mechanisms underlying the alteration of 2D materials' valence band structure upon derivatization.
