Multidimensional assessment of anxiety through the State-Trait Inventory for Cognitive and Somatic Anxiety (STICSA): From dimensionality to response prediction across emotional contexts

Filipa Barros et al.

Summary: The assessment of maladaptive anxiety is important for individuals, economy and society. The State-Trait Inventory for Cognitive and Somatic Anxiety (STICSA) is a self-report instrument used for multidimensional anxiety assessment. This research aimed to expand on the psychometric studies of STICSA in the Portuguese population. The results supported the four-factor and two separated bi-factor structures, as well as the measurement invariance across sex groups.

A comparison of anxiety symptoms and correlates of anxiety in people with progressive and relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis

Lindsey M. Knowles et al.

Summary: People with multiple sclerosis (MS), regardless of disease course, reported similar levels of anxiety to the general population. However, individuals with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) reported slightly higher levels of anxiety compared to those with progressive MS (PMS), although the difference was not clinically significant. Common factors associated with higher anxiety symptoms in MS patients included shorter disease duration, lower household income, speech and/or swallowing problems, and current tobacco smoking. Overall, the findings suggest the need for further research to understand anxiety in MS and improve its conceptualization and treatment.
