Natural fractures and their contribution to tight gas conglomerate reservoirs: A case study in the northwestern Sichuan Basin, China

Lianbo Zeng et al.

Summary: Well-developed natural fractures in the tight gas conglomerate reservoirs of the northwestern Sichuan Basin greatly contribute to porosity and permeability, serving as storage space and fluid flow conduits. Open fractures make up over 70% of porosity, with local permeability 3-5 orders higher than matrix reservoirs. Natural fracture intensity correlates significantly with natural gas productivity, with fracture orientation impacting productivity.

Characterization of marine shale in Western Hubei Province based on unmanned aerial vehicle oblique photographic data

Senlin Yin et al.

Summary: In this study, unmanned aerial vehicles and oblique photography technology combined with manual investigation were used to establish a three-dimensional digital model for characterizing the shale geological features of the outcrop area. The distribution of shale gas sweet spots was revealed.

U-Net model for multi-component digital rock modeling of shales based on CT and QEMSCAN images

Bingke Li et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method to accurately and quickly establish digital core images with multi-mineral components. By training a U-Net model, the CT images are automatically segmented and converted into multi-mineral component images, and manually segmented micropores and fractures are added. The results are satisfactory.

Opening-mode fracturing and cementation during hydrocarbon generation in shale: An example from the Barnett Shale, Delaware Basin, West Texas

Julia F. W. Gale et al.

Summary: In this study, the timing of three generations of fractures in Barnett Shale was determined using crosscutting relations, fluid inclusion assemblage temperatures, and a burial history model. The results provide important insights into the formation and evolution of fractures.

Characterization, controlling factors and evolution of fracture effectiveness in shale oil reservoirs

Lei Gong et al.

Summary: Fracture effectiveness plays a crucial role in shale oil exploration. This study evaluated the fracture effectiveness in the Cretaceous Qing-1 Member shale oil reservoir in Gulong Sag, China, and identified structural fractures as the most significant factor. Structural inversion, abnormal high pressure, and dissolution were found to have the least impact on fracture effectiveness.

Reservoir space and enrichment model of shale oil in the first member of Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation in the Changling Sag, southern Songliao Basin, NE China

Liu Bo et al.

Summary: The study of the lithology, lithofacies, reservoir properties, and shale oil enrichment model in a lake basin with terrigenous clastics in the southern Songliao Basin highlights the higher hydrocarbon generation potential and effective reservoir space of laminated shale, with specific conditions leading to oil and gas enrichment.
