Multisource Seismic Full Waveform Inversion of Metal Ore Bodies

Fengjiao Zhang et al.

Summary: The seismic exploration method is capable of detecting deep metal ore bodies, but accurately describing the geometry of complex ore bodies is challenging. Seismic full waveform inversion is a relatively new method that can achieve accurate subsurface imaging, but its success relies on better initial models and low-frequency data. Seismic data acquired in metal mine areas often fail to meet the requirements of full waveform inversion. Passive seismic data typically contains useful low-frequency information. In this study, both passive and active seismic datasets are used to improve the results of full waveform inversion in metal mining areas. The findings demonstrate that multisource seismic full waveform inversion can yield satisfactory results for high-resolution seismic imaging of metal ore bodies.

Elastic Correlative Least-Squares Reverse Time Migration Based on Wave Mode Decomposition

Yue Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, a new practical correlative LSRTM (CLSRTM) scheme based on wave mode decomposition without amplitude and phase distortion is introduced. Migration and de-migration operators are deduced using the decoupled P- and S-wave equations in heterogeneous media, which eliminates the need for extra wavefield decomposition in simulated data. The proposed method compensates the energy of deep structures, generates clear images with balanced amplitudes and enhanced resolution, and is capable of handling fault structures beneath the salt dome.

Grid-characteristic method using Chimera meshes for simulation of elastic waves scattering on geological fractured zones

Nikolay Khokhlov et al.

Summary: Geological fracture zones are crucial in determining oil and gas field reserves. Numerical methods are used for wave scattering modeling in fractured zones, but limitations exist in only calculating wave scattering on cracks along the coordinate axes. To create more realistic models of fractured fields, unstructured or structured curvilinear computational meshes are required, which demands significant computing resources.
