Life cycle assessment of zinc and iron recovery from spent pickling acids by membrane-based solvent extraction and electrowinning

Andrea Arguillarena et al.

Summary: This paper conducted a life cycle assessment to evaluate the environmental performance of the valorization of spent pickling acid generated in the hot-dip galvanizing process. The results showed that the implementation of the LIFE2ACID technology significantly improved the environmental performance of SPA management. The technology converted most of the impact categories into environmental benefits and reduced the global warming impact.

Strengthened Oxygen Oxidation of Ferrous Ions by A Homemade Venturi Jet Microbubble Generator towards Iron Removal in Hydrometallurgy

Xinzhuang Fu et al.

Summary: This study proposed a method using a microbubble generator to accelerate the oxidation of Fe2+, improving the rate of iron ion removal. By adjusting parameters under different conditions, the oxidation reaction in the solution can be optimized. This method can increase the purification depth of iron ion, reduce production costs, and decrease energy consumption.

Resource-recycling and energy-saving innovation for iron removal in hydrometallurgy: Crystal transformation of ferric hydroxide precipitates by hydrothermal treatment

Zhen Niu et al.

Summary: In the hydrometallurgy industry, the accumulation of iron removal residues containing heavy metal and toxic elements poses a threat to ecological systems. A novel method was proposed to prevent hazardous iron removal residues by purifying iron ions through neutralization precipitation and converting ferric hydroxide into hematite through hydrothermal reaction. Results showed that controlling hydrothermal reaction temperature and acidity can effectively reduce the loss of valuable metals in the precipitates.

Comprehensive Study on the Mechanism of Sulfating Roasting of Zinc Plant Residue with Iron Sulfates

Pavel Grudinsky et al.

Summary: The study comprehensively investigated the composition of Zinc plant residue (ZPR) and the obtained products using various methods, elucidated the mechanism of sulfating roasting, and estimated the rate-controlling step of zinc and copper sulfation process. The results showed that the optimal condition for recovery of 99% Zn and 80.3% Cu is sulfating roasting at 600 degrees C for 180 min with the Fe-2(SO4)(3)center dot 9H(2)O addition, followed by water leaching, while Fe, Pb, Ag, In, Ga retained almost fully in the residue.
