A localized study on the influence of surface preparation on the reactivity of cast Al-7Si-1Fe and Al-7Si-2Cu-1Fe alloys and their effect on cerium conversion coating deposition

Salil Sainis et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spontaneous triggering mechanism of cerium-based conversion coatings and the influence of surface preparations on the coating properties. By subjecting two different cast aluminum alloys to various surface treatments, the changes in surface state are monitored and correlated with the formation of conversion coatings.

EIS Investigation of the Corrosion Behavior of Steel Bars Embedded into Modified Concretes with Eggshell Contents

Yuri Alexandre Meyer et al.

Summary: This study focuses on evaluating the corrosion behavior of steel bars embedded in concretes, by replacing a portion of sand and cement contents with eggshell particles. The corrosion behavior is evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and the potentiodynamic polarization technique. The results show that the use of finer eggshell particles in the concrete mixture can enhance the passivation of the rebar and improve corrosion resistance. This environmentally friendly and economical concrete shows great potential for practical applications.

Exploration and tuning of Al2O3/Mo composite for enhancement of anti-corrosion and tribological characteristics in zinc phosphate conversion coatings

A. H. Riyas et al.

Summary: In this study, Al2O3/Mo composite incorporated zinc phosphate coatings were developed on galvanized steel. The tuned composition of Al2O3/Mo composite in the phosphating solution effectively improved the corrosion-resistant characteristics and tribological performance of the coating. By adjusting the concentration of the composite, a more compact, homogeneous, and dense zinc phosphate crystal growth and coverage were achieved on the galvanized steel surface, leading to enhanced corrosion-resistant performance. The distribution of the composite particles was uniform, and the surface roughness was reduced, contributing to better anti-corrosion properties.

Preparation and characterization of cerium-based conversion coating on a Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10 dual-phase high-entropy alloy

Li-An Chen et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties of Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10 (at.%) dual-phase high-entropy alloy (DP-HEA) are superior to single-phase HEA, but its poor corrosion resistance due to high manganese content limits potential applications. This study successfully improved the corrosion resistance of Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10 DP-HEAs by applying a cerium conversion coating, particularly through continuous bath-heating processes. The thickness and CeO2 content of the coating formed by the T70 bath-heating process contributed to its superior anticorrosion properties.

Summary: The study demonstrates improved corrosion protection efficiency of a defect-free sol-gel hybrid coating containing cerium oxide nanofibers compared to a sol-gel coating with commercial ceria particles. The organically modified silica-alumina (Si-Al) hybrid sol-gel coating exhibits excellent corrosion resistance and compatibility with the conventional chromate conversion coating (CCC).

Influence of indentation size on the corrosion behaviour of a phosphate conversion coated AZ80 magnesium alloy

Xuejiao Jia et al.

Summary: The simulation of service performance of magnesium alloy wheel hub was conducted by studying the impact of surface defect size on the corrosion resistance of a calcium phosphate conversion coated AZ80 magnesium alloy. The study found that the size of surface defects influenced the corrosion resistance of the coating and the corrosion initiation area. The coating did not provide protection for an indentation larger than 2.7 mm.
