Internal Stress Evolution and Subsurface Phase Transformation in Titanium Parts Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion-An In Situ X-Ray Diffraction Study

Felix Schmeiser et al.

Summary: The study investigates the phase transformation and internal stress of commercially pure titanium parts made with laser powder bed fusion, showing that a combination of low laser power and scanning speed leads to a more uniform stress distribution in the observed gauge volumes. As the part height increases during the manufacturing process, a stress maximum is formed below the part surface, extending into deeper layers with increasing laser power.

The effect of titanium and silicon addition on phase equilibrium and mechanical properties of CoCrFeMnNi-based high entropy alloy

Syuki Yamanaka et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of Ti and Si elements affects the phase equilibrium and mechanical properties of high entropy alloys, with Ti stabilizing multiple phases and Si stabilizing a specific phase. Tensile tests showed that both Ti and Si additions can increase the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of the alloys, with Ti-added alloys exhibiting higher strength.

Dry-Sliding Wear Mechanisms of Shot-Peened Additive Manufactured Alpha Titanium Featuring TiB Particles

Liza-Anastasia DiCecco et al.

Summary: The study investigated the load-induced dry-sliding wear behavior of alpha titanium samples with low boron content made through plasma transferred arc solid free form fabrication process. Shot peening treatment led to an increase in surface hardness, with limited influence on COF and wear rates but influencing the wear mechanisms observed. Untreated samples exhibited a shift in wear behavior from low to high loading conditions, while shot-peened samples showed limited changes in wear behavior, remaining dominated by oxidation wear. The shot peening treatment was hypothesized to delay the transition to severe wear at higher loads by inhibiting the formation of mechanically mixed layers and their delamination.
