Insights into the superior performance of mesoporous MOFs-derived Cu-Mn oxides for toluene total catalytic oxidation

Wei Hu et al.

Summary: A novel approach is developed to synthesize flower-like CuMn oxides catalysts for efficient toluene removal. The optimal catalyst, 1Cu1Mn-450, exhibits 100% toluene removal for 54 hours in the presence of steam at 210 degrees C. It shows excellent catalytic activity and stability due to its strong low-temperature reducibility, mobility of active oxygen, high average oxidation states of Mn, and oxygen storage capacity at low temperatures. The toluene oxidation follows a specific pathway, and the rate-controlled step is the breakage of CO in benzoate or CC in benzene ring.

Boosting the efficiencies of ethanol total combustion by Cs incorporation into rod-shaped alpha-MnO2 catalysts

Shuo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, cesium was introduced into two rod-shaped alpha-MnO2 with different crystal facets by ion exchange technique, resulting in improved catalytic performance and lower activation energy. Characterization using various techniques revealed that Cs doping enhanced the reducibility of the catalysts and promoted the generation of more reactive oxygen species, boosting ethanol oxidation activity. Incorporating Cs+ into alpha-MnO2 proved to be an effective strategy for designing low-cost, high-performance, and environmentally friendly metal oxide combustion catalysts.

Summary: Manganese oxides with varied Mn valence states but identical morphologies were successfully synthesized using a simple thermal treatment method. Among them, MnO2-H-200 showed superior ozone decomposition capacity, which was strongly associated with abundant oxygen vacancies on its surface. By combining various characterization techniques, the different O3 decomposition efficiencies among Mn3O4, Mn2O3, and MnO2 were found to be dependent on the nature of oxygen vacancies present.
