Imidazolium-based poly(ionic liquid)s@MIL-101 for CO2 adsorption and subsequent catalytic cycloaddition without additional cocatalyst and solvent

Summary: Imidazolium-based ionic liquid monomers were polymerized inside a MIL-101 framework to form poly(ionic liquid)@MIL-101 composites, which exhibited good CO2 uptake capacity and efficient catalytic performance in the CO2 and epichlorohydrin cycloaddition reaction. Combining easy separation, recycling stability, and excellent CO2 adsorption and conversion performance, these composites are promising for use in CO2 capture and utilization.

Poly(ionic liquid) materials tailored by carboxyl groups for the gas phase-conversion of epoxide and CO2 into cyclic carbonates

Summary: In this study, polymer ionic liquid materials (PILMs) were prepared to enhance the affinity for CO2 and PO, and used to catalyze the conversion of epoxides and CO2 into cyclic carbonates. The PILM-VCPImBr exhibited excellent catalytic activity and a possible catalytic mechanism involving hydrogen bond synergistic effect was proposed. This work provides a novel strategy for designing stable and nature-friendly catalysts and a new method for cyclic carbonate conversion.

CO2-induced dissolution of ZnO into ionic liquids and its catalytic application for the hydration of propargylic alcohols

Summary: An unexpected discovery of CO2-induced dissolution of ZnO into ionic liquids has been made, which can be utilized as an efficient Zn-based catalytic system for the CO2-promoted hydration of propargylic alcohols. The dissolved mixture exhibits high dissolution speed and can be recycled for multiple cycles, yielding excellent results. This system also has the ability to utilize waste pigments as the ZnO source and can function even under flue gas atmosphere.

Renewable biochar derived from mixed sewage sludge and pine sawdust for carbon dioxide capture

Summary: This study evaluated the CO2 adsorption performance of KOH-modified biochars prepared at different temperatures. The biochars derived from a mixture of pine sawdust and sewage sludge displayed different surface areas and micropore volumes, with the highest CO2 adsorption capacity observed at 700 degrees C. In addition, surface functional groups, hydrophobicity, aromaticity, and the presence of hetem atoms (N) also played a role in CO2 adsorption. Furthermore, in situ DRIFTS analysis provided insights into the chemical sorption mechanisms and identified the transformation composites and newly formed mineral species during the CO2 sorption process.

A unique terbium-fluoride-oxalate metal-organic framework containing [Tb-F]n chains with bifunctions of luminescent detection of Cr(VI) and catalyzing CO2 conversion to cyclic carbonates

Summary: The low cost is an important factor for the practical application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). In this study, we report the synthesis and crystal structure of a Tb-fluoride-oxalate framework, which can be efficiently synthesized under mild conditions using simple and inexpensive organic ligands. The framework exhibits strong green photoluminescence and can be used as a turn-off luminescent sensor for toxic ions in aqueous solution. Additionally, the framework shows good catalytic activity for the cycloaddition reaction of CO2 with epoxides.

Hydrogen bond donor functionalized poly(ionic liquids)@MIL-101 for the CO2 capture and improving the catalytic CO2 conversion with epoxide

Summary: In this study, hydrogen bond donor functionalized poly(ionic liquids) were incorporated into the MIL-101 framework to synthesize composites PIL-R@MIL-101 (R = COOH, OH, NH2). The effect of different hydrogen bond donors on the CO2-epoxide cycloaddition reaction was investigated through XPS and NH3-TPD characterizations. Among them, PIL-COOH@MIL-101 exhibited efficient catalytic performance in the cycloaddition reaction, achieving a substrate conversion of 92.7% under specific reaction conditions. The improved activity was attributed to the synergistic effects of Lewis acidic Cr centers, carboxyl group, nucleophilic Br-, high surface area, and good CO2 affinity. Additionally, PIL-COOH@MIL-101 demonstrated easy recovery and good recycling stability. The facilely prepared functionalized poly(ionic liquid)@MIL-101 composite shows great potential in CO2 capture and conversion.

Integration of catalyst and nucleophile in oxometal aminobis(phenolate) complexes with ammonium iodide pendant arm groups

Summary: An amine bisphenol ligand with an ammonium iodide group was reacted with V, Mo, and U oxometal precursors to form oxovanadium(V), dioxomolybdenum(VI), and dioxouranium(VI) species, respectively. The resulting complexes showed different coordination modes and counterbalancing units depending on the metal cations involved. The oxovanadium(V) complex exhibited catalytic activity in CO2 coupling reactions.

Preparation and catalytic property of composite ionic liquid immobilized on SBA-15
