Genetic Characterization and Population Structure of Pea (Pisum sativum L.) by Molecular Markers against Rust (Uromyces viciae-fabae) in Newly Developed Genotypes

Anmol Singh Yadav et al.

Summary: Understanding the genetic diversity and population structure of pea germplasm is necessary for developing rust resistant varieties. This study analyzed 115 Australian accessions and 4 Indian varieties using 31 polymorphic SSR markers, revealing 78 alleles and three alleles per marker on average. The population structure analysis identified three sub-populations and showed significant variation among the pea entries.

Identifying and validating SSR markers linked with rust resistance in lentil (Lens culinaris)

Jatinder Singh et al.

Summary: In this study, recombinant inbred lines (RILs) generated from a cross between rust resistant and susceptible genotypes were phenotyped and genetically analyzed for lentil rust resistance. The results suggest the involvement of a major gene in controlling rust resistance, and two markers, LcSSR440 and LcSSR606, were identified as being associated with rust resistance through co-segregation analysis. The applicability of these markers for marker-assisted breeding was further evaluated on different genotypes of lentil with varying rust resistance.

Mapping of Two New Rust Resistance Genes Uvf-2 and Uvf-3 in Faba Bean

Usman Ijaz et al.

Summary: Faba bean is gaining attention in Australia as a rotation grain legume due to its high export demand. Rust caused by Uromyces viciae-fabae is a major problem for Faba bean production in eastern Australia, but new resistant cultivars like Doza#12034 and Ac1655 are being developed through genetic mapping to combat this issue. Genetic markers like KASP_Vf_0703 and KASP_AcxF165 have been identified for marker-assisted selection of resistance to rust, Uvf-2 and Uvf-3, in Faba beans.
