Phenotyping Zebrafish Mutant Models to Assess Candidate Genes Associated with Aortic Aneurysm

Andrew Prendergast et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of using zebrafish mutants to assess candidate genes for pathogenicity in patients with thoracic aortic aneurysm. Various pathogenic mutations were found to cause abnormalities in the heart, brain, aorta, and skeleton. Using zebrafish models could provide a rapid and evidence-based approach to evaluating the significance of genetic variants identified in clinical practice.

Summary: The 2022 ACC/AHA Guideline for the Diagnosis and Management of Aortic Disease provides recommendations for clinicians on the diagnosis, genetic evaluation, medical therapy, endovascular and surgical treatment, and long-term surveillance of patients with various clinical presentations of aortic disease. The guideline emphasizes the importance of shared decision making and institutional interventional volume and multidisciplinary expertise in the care of patients with aortic disease.
