Multi-region machine learning-based novel ensemble approaches for predicting COVID-19 pandemic in Africa

Zurki Ibrahim et al.

Summary: This study aims to predict daily COVID-19 cases in 10 African countries using machine learning models. The results show that the ensemble approaches combining nonlinear and linear models improve the prediction accuracy. The ANFIS model performs the best in the validation step, and the ANN-E and SVM-E ensemble approaches significantly improve the prediction performance for the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa.

Prediction of late-onset fetal growth restriction using a combined first- and second-trimester screening model

Yan Feng et al.

Summary: This study developed a simple combined first-and second-trimester prediction model for screening late-onset fetal growth restriction. By analyzing multiple predictors, the model achieved a detection rate of 51.6% for late-onset FGR at a 10% false positive rate.

Using ultrasound and angiogenic markers from a 19-to 23-week assessment to inform the subsequent diagnosis of preeclampsia

Jonathan Lai et al.

Summary: The study evaluated whether fetoplacental assessment at a 19- to 23-week scan could be carried forward to contribute to the classification of preeclampsia and improve the detection of women and fetuses at risk of adverse outcomes associated with hypertension.

Predicting the concentrations of enteric viruses in urban rivers running through the city center via an artificial neural network

Jing Miao et al.

Summary: The study developed multiple linear regression (MLR) and artificial neural network (ANN) models to predict enteric virus concentrations in urban rivers. The ANN models showed better performance and stronger correlation with measured outputs compared to MLR models. These findings suggest that ANN modeling can improve assessments of waterborne disease prevalence.

Prediction of pre-eclampsia-related complications in women with suspected or confirmed pre-eclampsia: development and internal validation of clinical prediction model

L. Saleh et al.

Summary: A clinical prediction model was developed and internally validated to predict the risk of pre-eclampsia (PE)-related maternal and fetal complications within 7, 14 and 30 days. The model showed good discriminative performance and awaits further investigation and external validation for clinical use.
