Changes in torque complexity and maximal torque after a fatiguing exercise protocol

Joao Oliveira et al.

Summary: Torque outputs exhibit complexity in their temporal structure, which is altered by fatigue. Fatigue leads to more regular torque outputs and decreased adaptability. The recovery patterns of torque complexity after fatigue are different from maximal torque, and it remains unknown if this is muscle dependent. The correlation between changes in maximal torque and complexity is also yet to be investigated.

Ischemic Preconditioning Blunts Loss of Knee Extensor Torque Complexity with Fatigue

Jamie Pethick et al.

Summary: The study found that ischemic preconditioning (IPC) can reduce the decrease in muscle torque complexity during fatigue at the neural level, leading to an extended time to task failure. IPC has an impact on the changes in EMG amplitude and oxygen consumption rate during muscle fatigue development.

Recurrence quantification analysis of force signals to assess neuromuscular fatigue in men and women

Cyril Chatain et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate changes in force signal complexity induced by fatigue and recovery using RQA. Results showed that complexity decreased with fatigue and increased after recovery, with men showing faster loss of complexity and women returning to baseline complexity levels after recovery. This suggests that RQA is effective in exploring force signal temporal structure and detecting changes in complexity, particularly in relation to sex differences.

Fatigue-induced changes in knee-extensor torque complexity and muscle metabolic rate are dependent on joint angle

Summary: The study showed that the correlation between torque complexity and metabolic rate may change as joint angle decreases, and muscle length during high-intensity contractions has an impact on this correlation.
