Cell Surface Transporters and Novel Drug Developments

Natasha Carmichael et al.

Summary: Despite advances in science and technology, the attrition rates for anticancer drugs remain high. It is timely to question the generic drug development process and find a more efficient approach. Recent evidence suggests that carrier mediated transport may be the primary mechanism of drug uptake, rather than diffusion. Computational biology is increasingly used in drug design to achieve desirable properties. Perfecting drug entry into target cells is expected to reduce attrition rates. Utilizing transporters as drug targets and advocating bRo5 molecules may revolutionize drug development.

The effects of drug transporters on the efficacy of methotrexate in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis

Jinzhang Gao et al.

Summary: The ABC and SLC transporter families play crucial roles in the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs, affecting the efficacy of methotrexate (MTX) in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Abnormal expression and transport activity of drug transporters are associated with MTX resistance in RA patients.

Surface guided frameless positioning for lung stereotactic body radiation therapy

Sebastian Sarudis et al.

Summary: The study quantified intra-fractional shifts of patients and tumors during lung SBRT treatments using a frameless immobilization approach combined with SGRT monitoring. Results showed that the approach was effective in managing patient and tumor shifts, with minimal impact on dose delivery to organs at risk and the gross tumor volume. No correlation was found between treatment time and the magnitude of patient shifts.

Baicalein modulates the radiosensitivity of cervical cancer cells in vitro via miR-183 and the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway

Hongwei Lei et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that baicalein inhibits cell viability and EMT, and induces cell apoptosis in Hela cells through upregulation of miR-183 via inactivation of the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway.

Stereotactic MR-guided online adaptive radiation therapy (SMART) for the treatment of liver metastases in oligometastatic patients: initial clinical experience

Gamze Ugurluer et al.

Summary: This retrospective study presented initial clinical experience on the implementation of stereotactic MR-guided online adaptive radiation therapy (SMART) for liver metastases in oligometastatic disease. The results showed promising outcomes with high response rates and overall survival in patients treated with SMART.
