The proposed complementary reaction mechanisms involve potential photoexcitation of the iron complex and subsequent oxygen-mediated hydroxyl radical generation reactions.

Summary: A heterogeneous visible-light driven photo-electro-Fenton system was developed using nitrogen/oxygen biomass self-doped porous carbon (NO/PC) cathode catalyst and CuFeO2/biochar particle catalyst to degrade tetracycline. By optimizing the CuFeO2/biochar loads, initial pH and current density, the energy consumption was reduced and tetracycline mineralization was promoted. The degradation pathway and Escherichia coli growth inhibition experiments showed that the catalytic degradation of the H-VL-PEF system alleviated the comprehensive toxicity of tetracycline.
