Commonalities in the Features of Cancer and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS): Evidence for Stress-Induced Phenotype Instability?

Andrej Rusin et al.

Summary: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME) and Cancer-Related Fatigue (CRF) have overlapping symptoms and their etiologies may be linked. Studies suggest that multiple stressors including HPA-axis dysfunction, the serotonergic system, cytokines and inflammation, metabolic insufficiency and mitochondrial dysfunction, and genetic changes are involved in both CRF and CFS/ME. There may be a continuum of potential biological effects occurring in response to stress, influenced by factors such as genetic background. Future research should focus on identifying common biomarkers in CFS/ME and CRF patients to further understand their commonalities.

Tissue accumulation of neutrophil extracellular traps mediates muscle hyperalgesia in a mouse model

Kazuaki Suzuki et al.

Summary: This study found that locally recruited neutrophils forming NETs play a role in muscle hyperalgesia through increased tissue UA levels. Muscle hyperalgesia symptoms can be improved by neutrophil depletion, extracellular DNA cleavage, and administration of urate-lowering agents.

PI3K/Akt/mTOR Pathway and Its Role in Cancer Therapeutics: Are We Making Headway?

Yan Peng et al.

Summary: Cancer is a global public health issue that hinders the improvement of life expectancy worldwide. Current therapeutic options are insufficient, necessitating targeted treatments. Understanding the association between the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and tumorigenesis, as well as the development of therapies targeting this pathway, is crucial for clinical decision-making.

Neutrophil extracellular traps mediate joint hyperalgesia induced by immune inflammation

Ayda Henriques Schneider et al.

Summary: The study suggests that neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) may cause joint hyperalgesia possibly through Toll-like receptor (TLR)-4 and TLR-9, leading to worsened joint pain in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Contemporary Lifestyle and Neutrophil Extracellular Traps: An Emerging Link in Atherosclerosis Disease

Laura Perez-Olivares et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the active role of neutrophils and NETs as underestimated players in the inflammatory process during atherogenesis and lesion progression, how these extracellular structures communicate with main cell types in atherosclerotic lesions, and how neutrophil effector functions interact with lifestyle-derived risk factors in the development of cardiovascular disease.
