Potential of natural products in the treatment of myocardial infarction: focus on molecular mechanisms

Amirhossein Sheida et al.

Summary: Concerns about long-term side effects have led to a decline in the use of conventional drugs for cardiovascular disease, with renewed interest in medicinal plant products as potential alternatives. Increased levels of free radicals and oxidative stress contribute to myocardial damage after heart attack, and treatment approaches aim to reduce free radicals and enhance antioxidant defense mechanisms. Bioactive natural products such as curcumin, resveratrol, quercitin, berberine, and tanshinone have been shown to protect the heart muscle in myocardial infarction and have potential molecular mechanisms of action.

A berberine hydrochloride-carboxymethyl chitosan hydrogel protects against Staphylococcus aureus infection in a rat mastitis model

Jinjin Tong et al.

Summary: This study prepared a novel berberine hydrochloride-carboxymethyl chitosan hydrogel (BH-CMCH) with excellent properties and demonstrated its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus in a rat mastitis model. Proteomics analysis indicated that BH-CMCH enhanced autolysosome degradation and activated the lysosomal pathway to promote the innate immune response.

Berberine ameliorates aGVHD by gut microbiota remodelling, TLR4 signalling suppression and colonic barrier repairment for NLRP3 inflammasome inhibition

Yanna Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the anti-inflammatory activities of berberine (BBR) as an herbal medicine in a mouse model with acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD). The results showed that BBR lessened weight loss, high mortality, and clinical scores induced by aGVHD, inhibited inflammation and organ damage, and prevented colonic barrier damage. Additionally, BBR modulated gut microbiota, suppressed the activation of the TLR4 signaling pathway, and inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome and its cytokine release. These findings suggest that BBR has potential as a therapy for aGVHD through NLRP3 inflammasome inhibition.

Berberine inhibits gastric cancer development and progression by regulating the JAK2/STAT3 pathway and downregulating IL-6

Minmin Xu et al.

Summary: Berberine was found to inhibit proliferation, induce apoptosis and cell cycle arrest of gastric cancer cells, as well as suppress migration and invasion. In addition, it was shown to modulate signaling pathways related to IL-6/JAK2/STAT3, providing a theoretical basis for its use in gastric cancer prevention.

A large- scale genetic correlation scan between rheumatoid arthritis and human plasma protein

P. Luo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the genetic correlation and causal relationship between blood plasma proteins and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The results revealed seven plasma proteins that had genetic correlations with RA, and sRAGE showed a significant causal relationship with RA. Furthermore, USE1 was the only differentially expressed gene associated with RA among the genes encoding the seven plasma proteins.

Immunomodulatory role of T helper cells in rheumatoid arthritis A COMPREHENSIVE RESEARCH REVIEW

P. Luo et al.

Summary: Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease involving T and B cells and their interactions with proinflammatory cytokines. T cells, including Th1, Th2, Th17, and Tfh cells, play important roles in RA by secreting different cytokines and promoting joint destruction and disease progression.

LncRNA-H19 silencing suppresses synoviocytes proliferation and attenuates collagen-induced arthritis progression by modulating miR-124a

Xiaohong Fu et al.

Summary: lncRNA-H19 plays a crucial role in the proliferation of fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) by competitively binding to miR-124a and modulating the expression of CDK2 and MCP-1. Targeting the lncRNA-H19-miR-124a-CDK2/MCP-1 axis may have therapeutic potential in rheumatoid arthritis treatment through the inhibition of the signaling pathway.

Summary: This study suggests that blood and synovial CLP are useful markers in the diagnosis of chronic PJI with similar or higher sensitivity and specificity compared to routinely used markers such as CRP, ESR, IL-6, and LE. Characterization and Function of Tumor Necrosis Factor and Interleukin-6-Induced Osteoclasts in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Kazuhiro Yokota et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that TNF and IL-6-induced osteoclasts have the ability to absorb bone matrix, potentially contributing to the pathology of inflammatory arthritis associated with joint destruction, such as RA. The expression levels of proinflammatory cytokines were significantly increased in TNF and IL-6-induced osteoclasts, but not in RANKL-induced osteoclasts. The number of TNF and IL-6-induced osteoclasts correlated positively with the mTSS in RA patients, while RANKL-induced osteoclast numbers correlated negatively with the whole-body BMD of the same patients.
