Quantification of the Helical Morphology of Chiral Gold Nanorods

Wouter Heyvaert et al.

Summary: Chirality in inorganic nanoparticles and nanostructures has attracted increasing scientific interest due to their ability to interact differently with circularly polarized light. Quantifying the degree of chirality in objects of nanoscale is challenging, but the authors introduce a methodology based on helical geometrical properties to quantify the helicity of complex chiral nanomaterials. They demonstrate that analyzing individual particles can provide significant insights into the origin of chiroptical properties.

Superchiral hot-spots in real chiral plasmonic structures

C. Gilroy et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that superchiral hot-spots are created around structural heterogeneities in all real metal structures, which possess chiral asymmetries greater than what would be expected from an idealised perfect structure. The findings suggest that surface morphology could play a role in determining the efficacy of a chiral structure for sensing applications.

Photothermal Circular Dichroism of Single Nanoparticles Rejecting Linear Dichroism by Dual Modulation

Patrick Spaeth et al.

Summary: Researchers used photothermal microscopy to measure the circular dichroism of single gold nanospheres, adjusting modulation parameters through simulation to obtain a virtually artifact-free CD signal; the study found that the chirality of nominally achiral gold nanoparticles immersed in a chiral liquid was not affected.

Controlling the size and circular dichroism of chiral gold helicoids

Jeong Won Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, precise control over the size and optical properties of chiral gold 432 helicoid III nanoparticles was achieved using a seed-mediated method, resulting in nanoparticles with varying sizes and controlled geometries, as well as maximum chiroptic peak positions. This synthetic platform allowed for a comprehensive understanding of chiral morphology, optical response, and corresponding simulation data.

Discrete metal nanoparticles with plasmonic chirality

Guangchao Zheng et al.

Summary: Chiral objects lack mirror planes and inversion symmetry, exhibiting the same physical properties as their mirror images except for often opposite chiroptical activity. Recent studies have shown interesting implications of chirality on the optical properties of metal nanoparticles, specifically related to localized surface plasmon resonance phenomena.
