Near-field nano-spectroscopy of strong mode coupling in phonon-polaritonic crystals

Xin Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the strong coupling phenomenon in SiC phonon polaritonic crystals (PhPCs) and reveals the evolution of Rabi splitting with lattice constant change in the near-field perspective. The near-field spectra of PhPCs exhibit distinctive Rabi splitting and weak near-field scattering. These findings are significant for the design and application of coupled phononic nano-resonators.

High resolution measurement of near-field radiative heat transfer enabled by nanomechanical resonators

Mathieu Giroux et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that high-resolution NFRHT measurements can be conducted using silicon nitride freestanding nanomembranes, with a high Q-factor enabling an unparalleled temperature resolution compared to previous experiments. The results are in good agreement with a custom-built model that combines heat transport in nanomembranes and the effect of non-uniform stress/temperature on the resonator eigenmodes.

Enhancement of spectrally controlled near-field radiation transfer by magnetic polariton generated by metal-insulator-metal structures

Yuji Taniguchi et al.

Summary: The near-field radiation transfer between a metal-insulator-metal (MIM)-structured emitter and receiver was investigated through numerical simulation. The results showed a fourfold enhancement of the near-field radiation flux at specific frequencies, depending on the size of the squared island structure. This enhancement was attributed to the generation of magnetic polaritons in the insulator layer between the metal islands, leading to a resonant mode between the magnetic polariton and near-field radiation frequencies.

Engineering the Spectral and Spatial Dispersion of Thermal Emission via Polariton-Phonon Strong Coupling

Guanyu Lu et al.

Summary: Strong coupling between optical modes can modify the energy-momentum dispersion relation, offering potential avenues for tuning thermal emission properties. Experimentally and theoretically exploring energy exchange, mode evolution, and coupling strength between polariton branches, our results demonstrate significant improvements in spatial coherence and quality factor of polaritonic modes, providing opportunities for electrically driven emission.
