Student's Knowledge, Attitude, and Perception (KAP) to Solid Waste Management: A Survey towards a More Circular Economy from a Rural-Based Tertiary Institution in South Africa

Summary: This study examines the knowledge, attitude, and perception of students at a rural-based educational institution on solid waste management. The results show that students have low knowledge on solid waste management, but are willing to participate in recycling projects to improve the environmental state of the institution. Increasing awareness of environmental education and strengthening sustainability competencies are recommended for transitioning to a circular economy.

Influencing Factors on the Household-Waste-Classification Behavior of Urban Residents: A Case Study in Shanghai

Summary: This study investigates the factors influencing residents' household waste classification by conducting a survey in Shanghai. The results show that females and residents with higher education are more likely to participate in waste classification, and reward and punishment measures have the most significant impact on residents' behavior. Additionally, publicity and education, classification standards, facilities, recycling system, subjective norms, environmental knowledge, and attitudes all positively affect residents' household waste classification. Based on the empirical analysis, the paper provides reference suggestions for further development in waste classification in Shanghai.

Environmental assessment of recycling waste corrugated cartons from online shopping of Chinese university students

Summary: This study analyzed the characteristics of waste corrugated cartons generated by college students in China and evaluated the environmental impacts of the recycling process. Results showed that doctoral students and female students were more active in online shopping, leading to a higher generation of waste corrugated cartons. By reducing the generation of corrugated cartons and making the recycling chain more environmentally sustainable, joint efforts from universities, students, and recycling enterprises are needed.

Understanding waste sorting behavior and key influencing factors through internet of things: Evidence from college student community

Summary: This study analyzed the waste sorting behavior of college students and found that on average, college students in campus environment disposed of 0.426 kg of recyclable waste per week, with higher drop-off frequency before classes and during meal times. Under the pressure of subjective norms, the majority of respondents reported a higher frequency of waste sorting than the actual situation. The current incentive level was found to have limited impact on regulating waste sorting behavior.
